The Benedictine Abbey of Frauenwörth, built in 772, is located on the Frauenchiemsee Island in the Bavarian Lake Chiemsee. The abbey is surrounded by a beautiful, pristine landscape. The area is ideal for strolls and there is a comfortable footpath by the lakefront on which the island can be circled in about 20 minutes.

Travel directions

From Munich Airport (MUC)

  • take the rapid transit train "S-Bahn" to Munich Main Railway Station ("München Hauptbahnhof").
    Please note that the latest S-Bahn train which you can take to catch the last ferry to the conference location departs from Munich Airport at 4.05 pm.
  • take the train from Munich Main Station to Prien am Chiemsee. Prien am Chiemsee is located on the route from Munich to Salzburg and trains run every hour.
    Please note that the latest train which you can take to catch the last ferry to the conference location departs from Munich Main Station at 4.48 pm.
  • from the railway station in Prien am Chiemsee you can take a taxi or walk (approx. 1 mile) to the ferry station ("Fähranleger") Prien-Stock.
  • take the ferry to Frauenchiemsee. Ferries depart every 30 minutes, the ferry ride to the abbey takes about 30 minutes. Please note that the last ferry departs at 6.30 pm!

From Munich Main Railway Station ("München Hauptbahnhof")

  • take the train from Munich Main Station to Prien am Chiemsee. Prien am Chiemsee is located on the route from Munich to Salzburg and trains run every hour.

  • take the ferry to Frauenchiemsee. Ferries depart every 30 minutes, the ferry ride to the abbey takes about 30 minutes. Please note that the last ferry departs at 6.30 pm!
